Personal Finance 101: Why Money Matters

“The basics of personal finance are important because of how tied our money is to our hearts.  And as we grow to become more and more like Christ, addressing our hearts inevitably involves addressing our finances.”

Finances can be a touchy subject.  It’s a subject that we just don’t talk about that much. You probably have no idea how much money even your very best friend makes. You probably don’t share with anyone how much money you have in savings or how far you are in debt. And you definitely don’t talk about how much you spend each month on even the most basic of expenses (let alone your splurges). In fact, if you're like most Americans, you probably don’t even know any of this information about yourself.

For a subject that we talk so little about, Scripture takes the exact opposite approach. Jesus talked about money more than any other subject. The reason is, he knew that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt 6:21). And Jesus cares deeply about our money not because of some virtue in the money itself, but he cares deeply about our money because he cares deeply about our hearts.

Which begs the question, do you care deeply about how you use your money? Do you even know how you use your money? The basics of personal finance are important because of how tied our money is to our hearts. And as we grow to become more and more like Christ, addressing our hearts inevitably involves addressing our finances.

This summer seminar is designed to give you the basic tools to begin getting control of your finances.  We will discuss the four basic pieces of personal financial management:

Earning
Spending
Saving (including Investing)
Giving

In addition, we will discuss how to view and deal with financial debt.

This definitely won't be a “get rich quick” seminar, but it will be a seminar about how to live richly out of the abundance of God’s grace with all that he has given you and entrusted you with.

God cares deeply about your heart and so he cares deeply about your finances. Join us as we explore how you can, too.
