THE GOSPEL OF LUKE:
LIGHT AND DARKNESS

Luke 11:29-36

What is it that keeps us from belief?

Many are looking for a sign, argument, or circumstances that will settle the issue about Jesus once and for all. If only we had more illumination than we do now, we could come to a deeper faith and move forward fully convinced. In a challenging set of teachings, Jesus confronts us with the reality that the issue is not a lack of light, but a lack of sight. Jesus's teaching and ministry are more than enough light for us to come to a deep and satisfying conclusion about who he is. What we need is eyes that can see—and if we turn to Jesus, we'll find our eyes healed and beholding him.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

1. Do you find yourself wishing there was more evidence that God was real and Jesus Christ is who he said he was? How so? How does that affect your life, spiritually and otherwise?

2. Jesus shows us that our doubt is complicated. What are some ways your doubt might be more complicated than you realized?

3. How do the cross and resurrection of Jesus help with our doubts?

4. How might you turn to Jesus and ask him to open your eyes?

Weekly Announcements

Holy Week and Easter 2026
  • Maundy Thursday Service — Thursday, April 2nd, 7pm
  • Good Friday Service — Friday, April 3rd, 7pm
  • Easter Sunday Services — Sunday, April 5th, 8am, 9:45am & 11:30am

Invite Friends: Easter is not only a time of great celebration, it’s also a time of piqued interest and curiosity. Please pick up a few postcards on Sunday (or click here for a digital download in English or Spanish) and invite friends, co-workers, or neighbors to our Easter Services!

Help With Brunch: Cornerstone member Christina Dillard and her family are helping to organize an Easter brunch that will span our three services. We'd love to have help getting everything ready! On the afternoon of Good Friday, there will be an opportunity to shop and load in at the church. On Saturday, we'll be prepping food starting at 10am, as well as getting the gym ready for guests. On Easter Sunday, we'd love help serving food and tearing down after the last service. This is a great opportunity for your DC group or your household to pitch in, either by physically helping or by "sponsoring" some menu items. For more details and to express interest, please email Christina at hichristinadillard@gmail.com.

Pray: God invites his people near. And we commune with him in unique ways when we gather together in prayer. Join us Thursday mornings from 7-8am in the Sanctuary during Lent as we prepare for Easter by drawing close to God and interceding for our city.

Dinner will be served at 6:30pm in the Welcome Center, followed by a panel at 7pm in the Sanctuary. A vibrant college life and a thriving church life don’t have to be at odds.

Exploring Christianity: Dinner & Conversation
Starting Sunday, April 12th, 6-8pm

Exploring Christianity is a series of weekly dinners (April 12th, 19th, 26th & May 3rd) where people of all backgrounds can gather to enjoy free food, meet new friends, and have meaningful conversations about faith. We'll gather on Sunday evenings from 6-8pm starting April 12th and continue for four weeks. Each week we will explore a main pillar of the Christian faith. We encourage church members to invite friends and join as well. Pick up a postcard on Sunday, or share a digital version here! If you’re exploring for the first time, rethinking, or are just plain curious, Exploring Christianity is for you. Please sign up at https://tinyurl.com/exploring-christianity-cwla. Questions?
