Cornerstone exists because of Jesus. We are a people who have been transformed by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has forgiven us and adopted us into his family. Now, we have a whole new life.
Through the gospel, God redeems us, forgives us, and adopts us into his family. The good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection makes each one of us a new creation and gives us a new identity: children of God. This is why we can never think of the church as an organization or a building. The church is actually a family—God’s family, filled with redeemed sinners that are now his children.
Through the gospel, God forgives us, adopts us into his family, and makes us his disciples. This means that the church is not just any family. We are a family formed by God—and sent out with a purpose.
The church is a family that ministers to one another, cares for one another, and builds one another up. Each member of the family is a child of God who is uniquely gifted to bless the family and to be a light in our city.
Just like a vine grows best with a good trellis, our church family grows best with good programs. Our programs and ministries are tailored to support the community and mission God has given us.
"But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you."
– Luke 12:22-34 ESV
In today’s world many of us Christians struggle with worry; even though, we believe that God is sovereign and in absolute control of everything. This situation is nothing new, for Jesus was aware also of this exhausting and tiresome burden during His time here on earth. God wants us to know how we can begin to rest from the tyranny of worry so that we can also begin to rest on Him more.
1. The world is constantly determining how valuable you are by what you consume, by where you live, by your career choice, by your ethnicity, by your looks, by the size of your bank account and even by the coffee you drink. In light of this reality, who or what is determining your real value? Do you understand how valuable you are to God?
2. Self reliance has been instilled in us as a good virtue in life since we were children, but how much of that is now impeding in your trusting God more? Do you know your limitations or do you continue to assume the place of God in your life?
3. We have been commanded to seek the Kingdom of God first as the great goal of life. How is the kingdom of God the great goal of your life? What practical steps can you take to begin to move in that direction?
