Cornerstone exists because of Jesus. We'd love to show you how your story matters to him, and how his story matters for you.
The church isn't an organization or a building. The church is a family—God’s family, filled with redeemed sinners that are now his children because of Jesus.
Just like a vine grows best with a good trellis, our church family grows best with good programs. Our programs and ministries are tailored to support the community and mission God has given us.
Taught by Matt Kleinhans
Whether you grew up in Los Angeles or you are a transplant, whether you have lived here for 60 years or 6 months, and whether you are planning on staying for the rest of your life or leaving as soon as you can, God has a plan for you here. It is no accident that God has you where you are, in the job you're in, in the neighborhood you're in, in the classes you're in. This class explores what God has called His people to in the city of Los Angeles.
For the past 10 years, God has been developing Pastor Matt's heart for the city of Los Angeles. Matt longs to see Christ glorified in the city through the spreading of His gospel, and through the faithful love of His people.
This class will be structured as a half discussion, half lecture, centered on the application of God's mission in the context of the history of redemption.
Purpose: Why are you here in the city?
We all have different reasons for being in Los Angeles, but God has an overarching reason for why we are here. This class places our own understanding about why we are in Los Angeles in the context of God's ultimate purposes for the universe.
Identity: Who has God made us to be?
Before we know how we are supposed to live, we must know who God has made us to be. Everything we do as believers must flow out of who we are in Christ, as children, missionaries, and ambassadors. This class explores how our identity relates to God's mission in Los Angeles.
Calling: How has God called us to live?
How we live flows out of who God has made us to be. As God's redeemed people we have an identity and a mission. God has called us to live as His people in this time in this place. This class identifies how our identity in Christ teaches us about what our lives ought to look like in Los Angeles.
Mission: Whom shall we love?
Jesus says, "love your neighbor", but with a city like Los Angeles, overwhelming in size and breadth, it can be difficult to know which of the millions of our neighbors we are called to love. This class explains what it looks like to build intentional relationships in Los Angeles, in which our identity and calling can be lived out.
Intentionality: When and where?
Once we know what God's plan and purpose is (class 1), who we are in Him (class 2), how He has called us to live (class 3) and who we are called to love (class 4), we must know how our lives can be shaped and structured by these truths. This class practically applies the truths of the first four classes into direct lifestyle applications, showing how the truths of God Word form rhythms of intentionality in our lifestyle.
Together: With whom?
God has not designed us to be alone in this endeavor. The church is not a static organization of social support, but a gathering of redeemed saints who have been given a mission and purpose in their particular location. Churches are local for this reason, and this class demonstrates how the church and God's mission relate to one another.
