Jesus’ last instruction for his followers was for them to make disciples. All of us who know and trust in Christ are beneficiaries of a long line of men and women who have been faithful to that call. As a result, we desire to continue that faithful chain by spending our lives making disciples of others as well.
Discipleship takes many different forms, but ultimately it all comes down to one believer lovingly speaking the truth to another with the ultimate goal of their growth and maturity in Christ.
Discipleship takes many different forms, but ultimately it all comes down to one believer lovingly speaking the truth to another with the ultimate goal of their growth and maturity in Christ. At Cornerstone, we want everyone who is a part of the church to be in these kinds of relationships. We want you to be discipled by a believer who can speak wisely into your life and walk with you as you grow in Christ-likeness (this could be someone older than you, or a peer). We also want you to be living out your faith by discipling others.
I want to be discipled, where do I start?
If you desire these kinds of relationships but don’t know where to begin, we would encourage you to get involved in a community group. Each community group has leaders who are passionate about discipling others, and equipped to do so.
I want to disciple others, what should I do?
If you would like to begin discipling others as well, there are two things you can do.
First, simply pursue Christian friendship. Before you know it, you will be making disciples of those around you.
Second, make your desire known to your community group leaders or one of our pastors. In a church as diverse as Cornerstone, there will always be someone younger who could use your intentional love in their life.
Third, commit to becoming equipped. Our equipping class entitled “Your Place in God’s Church” is designed specifically to cast a vision for how you can make disciples at Cornerstone.
Discipleship Counseling
We believe that counseling is a specific form of discipleship. Counseling is simply intensive discipleship in the context of a unique crisis or problematic season. For this reason we greatly encourage counseling to take place in the context of already existing discipleship relationships. However, we also know that everyone can feel ill-equipped to handle some of the issues that arise.
